The Atego is available with drum brakes all round. All brakes are equipped with anti-lock braking system (ABS) as standard, plus a dual-circuit pneumatic braking system operating at 10 bar of constant pressure. It ensures vehicle drivability even in emergency braking situation. The powerful engine brake “Top Brake”, an exclusive Mercedes-Benz feature and offered as standard, sensibly improves braking power, providing fuel economy and reduction of wear in brake components and tires.

The dashboard provides the driver with all vital information for the vehicle operation and by the on-board diagnostics, which can inform occasional irregularities of the vehicle and help the driver in planning the required preventive maintenance.

For applications that require a third crew member, a centre seat is optionally available. All seats are fitted with 3-point seat belts.

Target speed set-up with help of an ergonomically placed lever, making the driving experience much more comfortable.

The driver air-sprung seat with its ergonomic design and multitude of adjustment options – including the vertical damping rate - offers supreme comfort for driving.

The Atego’s frame combines low weight with a highly robust design, while its “Z” shape and a 50-mm hole matrix enable bodies and mounted components such as extra fuel tanks to be installed without drilling additional holes. The frame also enables a very low entrance height and convenient access through to the co-driver’s side. Frame members are available in thicknesses of 7.0 mm, ensuring a high bending strength and torsional rigidity for any application.

The Mercedes-Benz 6-speed manual transmission G85-6 ensures an economically efficient driving style for the respective transport task in conjunction with other components of the powertrain. Gear shifting is smooth and precise.

The Atego is equipped with a strong and robust 4.2 litres, 4-cylinder or a 6.3 litres, 6-cylinder Mercedes-Benz engine, ensuring excellent performance and low fuel consumption. The large gear-spread ensures a high flexibility regarding various applications.

Atego is fitted with the robust 2-speed rear axle HL5 which allows maximum flexibility at the operation – from high torque to high speed at the wheels.

The Atego is fitted as standard with steel suspension, featuring parabolic springs and double-acting telescopic shock absorbers, to ensure maximum comfort and stability for every transport task.
